Alternative ways of to obtain  a luxury motor yacht

Today there are different possibilities available for  the realization of ones desire for a luxury yacht.One of these possibilities is, of course, simply to buy a yacht. 

That means however that you have to put capital into one single investment and therefore, as consequence, you enter into a sole class of investment risk. Whatever the investiment, this should be avoided, but especially considering the level of investment required today for the purchase of a yacht Prices within the field of yacht purchase, are growing due to internationally rising demand and the presently increasing construction and raw material costs.

The purchase of a yacht is, however, independently of whether it is new or used, in principle always associated with a larger investment. For example a used 20m motor boat with three cabins , saloon and Flybridge,  depending upon age and condition, still costs on average at least between 1 million and    3 million Euros.

Yacht financing

The yacht buyer who purchases his or her yacht through special yacht financing sometimes benefits from tax advantages and lowers the amount of his or her capital investment. However, this does not ultimately change much in terms of the total risk of his or her total investment. (Total credit obligation ) 

On top of this, in all situations, whether it is a new or used purchase, maintenance costs such as, for example, mooring, insurance, repairs and administration etc. of a yacht in the upper price bracket, have to be factored in. These are about 10% of the price each year. Aside from this you have to expect high loss of it’s value every year. 

On the other hand, the average yacht owner spends a maximum of 1 - 2 weeks a year on his or her yacht. For the rest of the time the yacht is unused and usually just accrues further costs. The possession of a yacht is one side, the other one is however the resulting maintenance costs and administration.

Rent cost of yachts

The rent, for example, of a 21m motor yacht, depending on the dealer and season amounts to between 3,000 and 5,000 Euros a day. 

One week’s rental adds up quickly to between 21,000 and 35,000 Euros a week. In addition to this, sought after yachts, in well known leasing zones, are booked out for months or years in advance. Normally a large bond has to be deposited for security, this means an additional commitment of capital. 

The condition of the yachts can, sometimes, be very varied. Rental of individual cabin yachts, like as is common on sailing yachts, is still, as far as we know, unknown in this area.
